Volunteering
Our Club also holds several parent meetings during the year. We encourage all parents to attend, as your input and involvement is very important to the running of our Swim Club. Our Club is run by volunteers and we ask that everyone help out if needed.
Hosting Our Swim Meet
We host one meet each summer. This is an exciting event for all Orcas to attend and to have fun! In order for this to all happen, we need parent volunteers! Each shift is approximately 2 hours.
Here are some of the volunteer opportunities:
Timers This is a great way to get a front row seat at a meet! You can volunteer as a timer at any meet as timers are needed from all clubs to make the meets happen. This job is quick to learn; no prior experience is necessary! It’s also a great way to meet other parents.
Safety Marshal Ensure warm up rules are followed and all activities in the pool area during warm up period are safe.
Deck Food We provide food and refreshments to all club volunteers, officials, and timers. We need people to prep food and refresh the food tables in the “Deck Food Room” throughout the meet.
Marshalling Do you like herding cats? Then this is the job for you! Marshalling involves helping swimmers line up properly for their races to ensure they end up in the right lane at the right time for their race.
Silent Auction One or two people are needed to organize items collected by families. At the meet, we need help at the silent auction table throughout the day.
50/50 tickets Promote our online 50/50 ticket raffle.
Ribbons Swimmers love to get ribbons! For this, we need people to label ribbons and organize them in bags for each team. This happens either at the meet, or in the following days.
Set Up and Take Down For all meets (ours and other teams’ meets) we need help transporting and tenting up our team tents. We also need additional help for our Orcas hosted meet to set up any tables (e.g. silent auction, clerk of course, and take them down at the end of each day).
Runner/Posting results For this job, you run results from the timing booth and post on a wall for swimmers to view. You may be asked to do additional runner tasks for timing booth volunteers.
There are many other opportunities at our meet and throughout the year to help out. It’s a great way to meet other families and have fun!
